British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua recently stepped into a gym in Jamestown, Accra, for an unforgettable encounter with Prince Larbie “The Buzz”, a 12-year-old Ghanaian boxer known for his exceptional speed and stamina.
The visit was part of the “Battle of the Beasts” boxing event organized by Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Rise Sports. During his tour of local boxing facilities, Joshua paused to engage in a light sparring session with Prince Larbie, who impressed spectators with his sharp jabs and high-energy combos.
Larbie, trained by his father Daniel Larbie, himself a former boxer started boxing before he turned three. Over the years, he’s developed a reputation as one of Ghana’s most promising young athletes.
Nicknamed “The Buzz,” he’s capable of throwing 150 punches in a single minute and was named Best Juvenile Boxer by the Boxing Writers Association of Ghana in 2020.
As Joshua held the pads and offered encouragement, it was clear he saw potential in the young fighter.
The exchange wasn’t just about punches—it was a moment of recognition, a spark of belief passed from a global heavyweight star to a rising local talent.
Prince Larbie has already caught the eye of international brands, serving as a youth ambassador for SPARBAR, a boxing equipment company. His dream remains focused: to raise Ghana’s flag on the world stage and show what young African athletes are capable of achieving with dedication and discipline.
Joshua’s visit was more than a celebrity moment, it was a subtle affirmation of Ghana’s role in shaping the next generation of boxing greats. For Prince Larbie, the brief sparring session may have just been the beginning of something far bigger.
