Oti Region Deserves Better – President Mahama Vows to Build Regional Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to construct a fully equipped regional hospital in the Oti Region, describing the absence of such a facility as a serious gap in Ghana’s healthcare system.

“Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right. Yet, the Oti Region remains one of the few without a regional hospital. I find this unacceptable,” Mahama said while addressing residents during his regional tour on Friday, July 23.

The former president said his next government would act decisively to correct the disparity, explaining that conversations were already underway to bring the promise to life.

“We are actively engaging with stakeholders, including the Ghana Health Service and development partners, to establish a fully equipped regional hospital in the Oti Region,” he announced.

According to Mahama, the planned hospital will serve as a key referral and emergency centre, reducing the burden on hospitals in Ho and Tamale.

“This facility will provide specialist and emergency care, relieving the pressure on hospitals in Ho and Tamale,” he said.

He further revealed that the hospital will be delivered under the Universal Primary Healthcare Programme and supported by smaller facilities across the region.

“Under our Universal Primary Healthcare Programme, this hospital will be complemented by modern health centres and community clinics across the districts, improving coverage, quality, and outcomes,” President Mahama assured.
