A woman narrowly escaped serious injury after Kenneth Jerome Logan Jr. allegedly shot at her in the parking garage of the Orange County Courthouse in Orlando on September 23. The incident, which took place around 11:30 a.m., prompted a lockdown of the courthouse complex as deputies responded to the scene.
Logan, 26, was arrested later that day following a manhunt. Sheriff John Mina announced Logan's capture through an Instagram post, thanking deputies for their swift action. "Earlier today, a shooting inside the parking garage at the Orange County Courthouse halted court operations for several hours while our deputies investigated the attempted murder of a woman in the garage, who thankfully was not injured in the shooting," Mina wrote.
According to an affidavit obtained by FOX 35 News, the victim was getting into her vehicle on the fourth floor of the garage when she noticed her seat had been moved. She soon discovered Logan hiding in the back seat. When she confronted him, asking, "Why are you doing this to me?" Logan allegedly pointed a gun at her and fired one shot as she fled the vehicle.
The woman managed to escape, but Logan pursued her, firing two additional shots, both of which missed. As she ran, Logan reportedly pistol-whipped her in the back of the head and attempted to reload the firearm while holding her down. A witness identified the woman as Logan's wife, and she managed to reach an elevator to escape.
Witness Fero Alhajjah, who heard three gunshots, described the chaos that unfolded. When he checked on the woman, she told him, “No, I’m not okay. My husband tried to shoot me.”
The shooting incident led to a significant law enforcement response, with the Orlando Fire Department and Orlando Police Department arriving at the scene. The courthouse remained on lockdown for several hours as deputies conducted their investigation.
Logan now faces multiple charges. He was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder with a Firearm, Aggravated Battery with Firearm (Domestic Violence), Armed Burglary of Conveyance with Firearm, Burglary of Conveyance with Assault/Battery, Robbery with a Firearm, Aggravated Stalking (Domestic Violence), False Imprisonment (With a Weapon), and Battery (Domestic Violence). Each of these charges underlines the severity of the situation.
The courthouse shooting serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise in domestic situations, even in public spaces. The quick response from law enforcement likely prevented a more tragic outcome, as the victim was able to escape, albeit with injuries from the altercation.
