The Chicks postpone Los Angeles concert last minute, leaving fans stranded and out of pocket

Iconic country music act cancels LA show just hours before showtime: ‘Flew in from Oklahoma for this!’

The Chicks pulled out of their Los Angeles concert ninety minutes before showtime on November 2, leaving hundreds of fans stranded outside the Dolby Theatre. The sudden postponement to November 4 came amid reports of illness within the band, consisting of Natalie Maines and sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer.

The last-minute decision sparked an immediate backlash on social media. More than 300 fans expressed frustration, many having travelled long distances or spent significant sums on non-refundable travel and accommodation.

“To say this an hour and 1/2 before the doors open is WILD,” wrote one fan who had travelled from San Diego. Another, flying in from Oklahoma, said simply: “Flew in from Oklahoma for this.” A third user wrote, “I flew into town and spent a lot for this show this fkn sucks… Excuse me if I don’t feel very respectful at the moment.”

Several directed their anger at frontwoman Natalie Maines. One message read: “Are you f–king kidding me @thechicks people came out of their way. NATALIE… Now YOU COST US MONEY.”

Many concertgoers reported receiving no official warning until arriving at the venue. “Didn’t find out until in the parking garage with my wife. And now tickets won’t be refunded because tonight wasn’t ‘cancelled,’” one said. Another described driving four hours, taking time off work, booking a hotel, and preparing for the show, only to find the doors closed. “To drive up to the venue to read the sign was just so heartbreaking,” they wrote.

The band’s choice to reschedule rather than cancel outright has complicated refund options. Ticket holders who purchased through secondary platforms like StubHub, SeatGeek, and Gametime found themselves unable to claim automatic refunds. Because the show was moved by 48 hours instead of cancelled, many tickets became unusable with no recourse.

“CANCEL THE SHOW. We do not get a refund. By not cancelling and simply rescheduling, anyone who purchased tickets on any other platform, loses the money. Our only hope is to relist. So I will lose over $1200. We all fly out,” one fan wrote. Another added, “Please cancel. Gametime won’t refund without cancellation. Already paid a lot for plane, hotel, ect. Please cancel so we can get something back!!!!”

Posters also referenced the wider economic climate, noting the financial strain on ordinary fans. “This is not the economy for this,” one remarked. “CANCEL THE SHOW!!! Please! Sorry y’all are sick but your fans are out time and money with this reschedule nonsense,” another pleaded.

The rescheduled concert will take place on Wednesday, November 4. It is planned as the final North American stop on The Chicks’ 20th Anniversary Taking the Long Way tour.
