Bomb threats disrupt flights from London, Copenhagen, Manchester and Israel, Warsaw Modlin airport resumes operations

Four separate flights from London, Copenhagen, Manchester and Israel affected by bomb threats – Europe live

Warsaw-Modlin Airport resumed operations after a bomb threat forced security sweeps on a LOT Polish Airlines flight from London. The airport confirmed it had given the all-clear following the checks but said a section near where the plane was parked remains closed for further inspection by security forces.

The alert came amid a series of disruptions affecting flights from London, Copenhagen, Manchester, and Israel. Authorities have not released details on the other incidents or confirmed if the threats were connected.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy is meeting with German chancellor Friedrich Merz and Germany’s president Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Zelenskyy said their talks would focus on “diplomatic coordination” concerning air defence and the energy sector.

“These will be the priorities of today’s talks. We all have an interest in security, stability, and protecting the rules-based international order. And we must work together to turn these principles into concrete decisions and actions,” Zelenskyy said.

The timing of the threats coincides with heightened tensions across Europe, as governments weigh responses to ongoing security challenges. Warsaw-Modlin’s partial closure lasted several hours before the airport confirmed most operations had returned to normal, though some areas remain under scrutiny.

LOT Polish Airlines did not immediately comment on the incident. It is unclear whether any passengers were evacuated or if flights were delayed or cancelled.

The bomb threats disrupted air traffic at multiple airports on Monday, but Warsaw-Modlin was the only one to announce a resumption of service by Tuesday morning. Security officials at the airport continue to investigate the suspicious message linked to the London flight.

Zelenskyy’s talks in Germany come amid increasing focus on international cooperation over defence capabilities and energy security, subjects that have gained urgency following recent geopolitical developments. The emphasis on “concrete decisions and actions” suggests a search for tangible outcomes from the meetings.

At Warsaw-Modlin, airport staff worked alongside local police and security agencies to clear the affected zone. The partial closure affected passengers waiting in nearby terminals but did not lead to a full shutdown of the airport.

No arrests have been reported in connection with the threats. Authorities have not released information about the source or credibility of the bomb alerts.

Security remains heightened across European airports after a series of incidents earlier this year raised concerns over aviation safety.

The interruption at Warsaw-Modlin is the latest in a string of disruptions affecting flights from major European cities. While most airports have returned to routine operations, the investigation there is ongoing.
