Fatal Atwedie Collision Claims 15 Church Members of ‘Saviour Church of Ghana’ on Accra-Kumasi Highway

Fifteen members of the Saviour Church of Ghana lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Monday, 28th July 2025, along the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

The fatal collision occurred at Atwedie in the Ashanti Region. According to preliminary reports, a mini bus transporting the church members from their annual meeting in the Eastern Region collided head-on with a fuel tanker.

Eyewitnesses say the crash was immediate and devastating.

Emergency services responded swiftly, but many victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, but authorities have confirmed that poor visibility and possible driver error may have played a role.

The victims were returning from the church’s annual gathering, a key event on the Saviour Church calendar that draws members from across the country.

Family members and church officials have been left in shock. “This is a devastating loss for our community,” said a senior member of the church. “They went to serve God and never returned.”

This tragedy adds to the growing number of deadly crashes along the Accra-Kumasi Highway, one of Ghana’s busiest and most dangerous roads. Transport safety advocates continue to call for stricter regulation, better road maintenance, and stronger enforcement of traffic laws to prevent further loss of life.

Police have begun an official inquiry into the incident.

Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially on long-distance routes prone to heavy traffic and high-speed travel.
