17-Year-Old Allegedly Kills Mother Over Missing Memory Card

A 17-year-old Junior High School student, Emmanuel Gyan, is in police custody for allegedly killing his mother over a missing mobile phone memory card.

Gyan is reported to have struck his 52-year-old mother, Faustina Agyeiwaa, multiple times on the head with a pestle until she collapsed. He then attempted to set her body on fire.

The incident occurred on Monday, January 15, at Wassa J.Y No.1 in the Sefwi Wiawso District.

According to the Sefwi Wiawso police, Gyan was arrested and handed over to authorities by his father, 58-year-old Isaac Somuah, with assistance from Stephen Amponsah.

Somuah and Amponsah informed the police that Gyan had accused his mother of taking his memory card, which she denied. Enraged, he allegedly attacked her, repeatedly hitting her on the head with the pistol until she died on the spot.

Her body has since been deposited at the Bibiani Government Hospital mortuary.
