From Security Guard to Graduate: Gabriel Nartey’s inspiring journey

For many students, university life is a balance of academics and social activities. But for Gabriel Nartey, it was a test of resilience, sacrifice, and sheer determination.

On February 15, 2025, Gabriel graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Science in Administration (Banking & Finance)—a milestone that once seemed out of reach.

His journey to that moment, however, was anything but easy.

From his first year to the middle of his third year, Gabriel worked night shifts as a security guard, ensuring he could afford accommodation near campus and support himself through school.

His days were spent in lectures, his nights spent on duty, often leaving him with barely any sleep before returning to class. Exhaustion became a constant companion, yet he pressed on.

When that job ended, things took an even more difficult turn. Unable to afford rent, he found himself sleeping in a lecture hall, uncertain of where his next refuge would be. But instead of giving up, he kept pushing forward.

He took on a part-time teaching job and embraced a leadership role as the Organizing Secretary of the Business House Junior Common Room—all while striving to excel academically.

“There were moments I wanted to quit,” he admitted in a LinkedIn post on March 2, 2025. “But I kept looking beyond the struggles.”

And his perseverance paid off. Though he did not achieve his initial academic target, graduating with a Second Class Upper was a victory he deeply cherished.

To those facing hardships, he had a message of encouragement: “Do not give up. Keep pushing, trust God, and look beyond the struggles. Your best days will soon come, and your story will inspire someone else.”
