Eight years may have passed, but the pain remains fresh.
The family of the late Major Maxwell Mahama, whose tragic death shocked the nation in 2017, gathered at the Osu Cemetery in a solemn memorial ceremony to honor his memory and reaffirm their call for justice, peace, and national reflection.
The ceremony, held on sacred ground where Ghana laid her son to rest, brought together family members, military officials, friends, and well-wishers.
The father of the fallen soldier, in an emotional address, expressed deep gratitude to Ghanaians and the Ghana Armed Forces for standing with them through the darkest times. But his message went beyond gratitude, it was a passionate appeal to end the culture of mob justice that cost his son his life.
Also speaking at the event was Rev. Forfoe, who paid tribute to Major Mahama’s unwavering dedication to duty and humanity. He described him as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and national service whose legacy must not be forgotten.
Major Mahama was brutally lynched in Denkyira-Obuasi while on duty in 2017, a moment that shook the country and sparked widespread outrage. His death became a symbol of the dangers of mob action and the need for better civic education.
As the sun set on the Osu Cemetery, the message rang clear: never again.
