The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured a major conviction in a robbery case involving 19-year-old Adams Hamidu, also known as Gyida.
On June 5, 2025, the Wa Circuit Court sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment with hard labor for his role in a violent robbery that occurred earlier this year.
In February 2025, Hamidu and an unidentified accomplice, both masked, robbed a victim of a blue Honda motorbike valued at GHC 20,000, a Tecno mobile phone worth GHC 1,300, and cash totaling GHC 10,800.
The attack was carried out with the intent to intimidate and permanently dispossess the victim of their property.
Following extensive intelligence-led efforts, Hamidu was arrested on June 1, 2025, in Domowa, a community in the Wa-West District. His swift prosecution and sentencing underscore the effectiveness of ongoing police operations in the region.

The Regional Police Command reiterated its assurance to the public of its unwavering resolve to protect lives and property.
“Our work doesn’t stop here,” the spokesperson added. “We will keep strengthening our intelligence-gathering capabilities and remain alert to all forms of criminal activity that threaten the peace and security of our region.”
