Bright Aweh, the prime suspect in the murder of a Ghana Immigration Service officer, has been arraigned before the Kaneshie District Court as investigations into the high-profile case continue.
Aweh is accused of killing the officer and setting the body on fire in a case that has shocked the nation and drawn widespread condemnation from the public and security agencies alike.
Prosecutors told the court that Aweh was apprehended following intelligence gathered by the police after days of manhunt. The victim’s charred body was discovered in a remote area on the outskirts of Accra. Forensic reports confirmed the victim’s identity as a serving immigration officer.
The court sitting, held under tight security, was brief and procedural. Aweh has not yet entered a plea. Prosecutors have requested more time to conclude investigations and gather additional evidence, including witness statements and forensic analyses.
Magistrate Nana Abena Owusu adjourned the case to August 22, 2025. Aweh has been remanded into police custody.
The Ghana Immigration Service has called for swift justice, describing the incident as a grave attack on the nation’s security services. In a statement, the Service said, “We urge the judiciary to ensure that justice is served without delay.”
The case remains under active investigation, with the police encouraging anyone with further information to come forward.
