The Ghana Police Service has interdicted General Lance Corporal Shani Abdullai after he was caught in possession of suspected Tramadol during a drug operation in Kpalsi, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region.
The interdiction follows a swift anti-drug operation led by the Northern Regional Police Command, which uncovered quantities of the synthetic opioid, commonly abused for its psychoactive effects.
Preliminary investigations suggest the officer may have been involved in trafficking or unauthorized possession of the controlled substance.
In a video sighted by Ghanaian blogger King Bygone, the officer is seen being confronted by authorities during the operation, with packets of Tramadol allegedly found in his possession.
The footage has since gone viral, sparking public outrage and demands for accountability within the service.
A statement from the Police Service confirmed the interdiction and stated that the officer is assisting in ongoing investigations.
The Police Administration emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on drug-related offenses and reiterated its commitment to upholding integrity and professionalism within the service.
“The interdiction is part of internal disciplinary procedures while full criminal investigations continue,” the statement read.
Tramadol, although legally prescribed in small doses, has become a widely abused drug in Ghana.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public it will not shield any officer involved in criminal activities and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report misconduct.
The case is expected to be forwarded to the appropriate legal channels for prosecution.
