‘Maybe we have to give Anas $5,000’ – Kennedy Agyapong Trolls Anas After Shocking U.S. Verdict

Outspoken Ghanaian politician Kennedy Agyapong is back in the spotlight, and this time, he’s laughing all the way to victory after a stunning twist in his legal battle with investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Agyapong, who was initially slapped with a whopping $18 million defamation fine by a U.S. jury, has been let off the hook — with the amount dramatically slashed to just $500 by the court. Yes, you read that right. From $18 million to five hundred bucks!

In typical Agyapong fashion, he didn’t hold back. “Maybe we have to give Anas $5,000,” he joked, surrounded by a jubilant team celebrating what they’re calling a total humiliation for the Tiger Eye PI boss.

The legal drama stems from comments Agyapong made after the release of Anas’ explosive 2018 BBC documentary, Betraying the Game, which exposed corruption in Ghanaian football. Anas sued, claiming defamation and character assassination,  and initially won big.

But the Essex County Superior Court in New Jersey had other ideas. While the jury found Agyapong liable, the final ruling came with a stinging twist: the damages were reduced to near-nothing, shocking many observers who expected a heavy financial penalty.

Anas, on the other hand, maintained that the original ruling sent a strong message about truth and justice. He also compared the outcome to a previous Ghana court decision that dismissed his defamation case — claiming the U.S. system at least acknowledged the harm.

Still, social media is buzzing, with fans of Agyapong hailing the verdict as a “clapback of the decade.” Meanwhile, critics argue it sets a dangerous precedent for media freedom and accountability.
