Ghanaian gospel musician and evangelist Diana Asamoah has issued a strong rebuke to followers of popular clergyman Adom Kyei Duah, calling out what she describes as “idol worship” following false rumors about the preacher’s death.
The outspoken gospel artist, known for her unapologetic commentary on faith and society, took to social media to address the viral claims, which spread quickly online and sparked emotional reactions from his congregation.
She didn’t hold back, suggesting that the intensity of the mourning exposed a deeper issue of misplaced devotion.
“Someone starts a rumor that your so-called messiah is dead, and suddenly you lose hope?” she questioned. “It shows the kind of god you are worshipping. You’re worshipping a human, not the living God.”
Asamoah’s comments came after widespread panic and mourning among supporters of Prophet Adom Kyei Duah, head of the Believers Worship Center, when rumors falsely claimed he had died. Although the church swiftly debunked the reports, videos circulated showing church members in visible distress, crying and praying frantically.
To Asamoah, the reaction underscored a deeper spiritual problem. She emphasized that Christians should place their faith in God—not in individuals, no matter how anointed or respected they may be.

“Where in the Bible does it say that your salvation depends on a prophet?” she asked rhetorically in her message. “You’re putting your soul in a dangerous place.”
Her remarks have since drawn mixed reactions online. While some applauded her boldness in addressing what they agree is an issue of spiritual dependency, others felt she was being insensitive to the emotions of church members who were reacting out of love for their spiritual leader.
Despite the backlash, Asamoah stood firm in her position. She reiterated that her intention was not to attack Prophet Adom Kyei Duah personally but to challenge what she sees as a growing trend of elevating spiritual leaders to divine status.
Prophet Adom Kyei Duah has not publicly responded to the rumors or to Asamoah’s statements. His church has, however, confirmed that he is alive and well.
The episode has once again brought into focus conversations around faith, religious leadership, and the fine line between reverence and idolatry in Ghana’s spiritual landscape.
