I am Happy Daddy Lumba is Dead – Kumawood actor Big Akwes

Kumawood actor Big Akwes has stirred massive public reaction following a shocking statement he made regarding the death of Ghanaian highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

Speaking in an interview with Mistake Chanti on Obantanpa Radio, Big Akwes disclosed that he felt a sense of relief upon hearing of Daddy Lumba’s passing. While his statement may seem insensitive at first glance, the actor clarified that his reaction was rooted in compassion rather than malice.

According to him, Daddy Lumba had suffered greatly in recent years due to persistent illness and multiple surgeries. “He has been in pain for a very long time. Even sitting in a wheelchair for almost three years, he was always in discomfort,” Big Akwes stated.

He continued by explaining that the highlife icon rarely made public appearances due to his deteriorating health. “He was always at home. Even when he tried to attend events, he would stay for only 30 minutes and leave due to the unbearable pain,” he added.

Big Akwes went on to share a particular incident that deeply hurt him. He recounted how Daddy Lumba was invited to perform at a funeral event organized for Father Abraham’s father. The family reportedly spent close to GHC400,000 in preparation and made all necessary arrangements, expecting the musician’s presence. However, Daddy Lumba failed to show up.

“Despite agreeing to come, he didn’t show. But after hearing about the state he was in, I understood. That’s why I say I’m happy he’s finally at peace. It’s not joy in his death, but peace that he no longer has to suffer,” Big Akwes explained.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away recently after battling an undisclosed health condition. He was widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians in Ghana’s history.
