British actor, musician, and producer Idris Elba, known by his Ga name ππ’π’ ππ²π’ππ, together with his team, paid a courtesy call on Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and the Ga Traditional Council.
The Hollywood actor is on a mission to establish a movie production studio in Accra and help Β Ghana set higher standards in filmmaking. He aims to proudly uphold Ga traditions and represent the Ga people in his films.
His goal is to bring the film industry back to Africa, elevating Ghanaβs filmmaking to an international level and amplifying its impact in the strongest way possible.
As part of his visit, Idris Elba paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse to seek his blessings for his life and upcoming projects in Accra. His deep respect for his heritage and his desire to contribute to Ghanaβs creative industry were key reasons for this important visit.
He and his team plan to develop a world-class film studio, school, and creative community on 22 acres of land beside Osu Castle. The studio will serve as a hub for filmmaking, with Elba actively working there and bringing his productions to Ghana.
As part of his commitment to supporting and uplifting the Ghanaian and African film industries, Elba is dedicated to building both a studio and a school in Accra.
Elbaβs mother, Eve, was born in Ghana and has siblings who still reside in Accra. Her last remaining sister, who is 94 years old, also lives in Accra.
Standing on Ga land as a son of the soil, an ambassador for Africa, and a representative of both his fatherβs country, Sierra Leone, and his motherβs homeland, Ghana, Elba strongly identifies as Ga through his maternal lineage.
