Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip in Ghana’s Parliament, has issued a stern warning to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), stating that the IGP “will not know peace” until the long-delayed declaration of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election results is resolved.
In a video shared by Ghanaian blogger King Bygone and reported by The 1957 News, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP said a formal petition has been submitted to the IGP. He stressed that although Parliament has shown the IGP respect and patience, the ongoing delay is unjustified and unacceptable.
“We’ve presented a petition to the IGP, and we’ve given him reasonable time. We’ve respected him and given him the benefit of the doubt,” Annoh-Dompreh said. “But we expect him to also respect Members of Parliament and the constitutional representation of the people of Ablekuma North.”
According to him, the matter has dragged on for six months with no explanation from the Electoral Commission or law enforcement, which he described as a serious breach of democratic responsibility.
“We’re not saying they should declare it in our favor — we believe we’ve won based on the figures. But whether or not we are right, this delay is wrong. It’s never happened before.”
He warned that unless urgent steps are taken to declare the seat, there will be continued pressure on the police administration.
“If the IGP does not act, he will not know peace until the Ablekuma North Parliamentary seat is declared,” he said.
The Ablekuma North parliamentary results have remained unannounced since the general elections, sparking political tension and growing frustration among supporters and MPs alike. Multiple calls have been made for the Electoral Commission to finalize the results, but no official statement has been issued to date.
Annoh-Dompreh’s comments add to the mounting political pressure on state institutions to address unresolved electoral issues promptly and transparently.
