Kumasi, April 30, 2025 – Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong has withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Thank You Tour following the violent stabbing of a supporter during an event in Kumasi on April 29.
The incident, which occurred at the Bantama Pentecost Church, has intensified concerns over internal divisions within the NPP.
The victim, a KNUST student affiliated with Unity Hall, was part of a group hired by Agyapong’s team to energize the event.
Reports indicate that a confrontation erupted after a group of armed men, allegedly linked to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s camp, seized money distributed to the group, leading to gunfire and the stabbing. The student is now stable after surgery at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Agyapong personally led a delegation to file a police report, with authorities recovering eight spent bullet casings from the scene.
Images circulating online show the injured student on a stretcher and Agyapong’s team at a police station, highlighting the gravity of the incident.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, condemned the violence, ordering a full investigation.
This incident follows a public clash between Agyapong and Bono Regional Chairman Abronye DC on April 28, exposing lingering tensions within the NPP.
Agyapong’s withdrawal underscores the party’s struggle for unity, raising questions about its future as it navigates internal conflicts ahead of the 2028 elections.
