Few African players have collected trophies in Italy the way Kwadwo Asamoah did. Between 2012 and 2018, the Ghanaian won six consecutive Serie A titles with Juventus, along with several Italian Cups. He did it in a range of positions, from central midfield to left wing-back, earning a reputation as one of the most reliable players in Europe.

Early life and Juventus

Asamoah was born in Accra in 1988. He played for local clubs, including Liberty Professionals, before moving to Italy. He joined Udinese, a club known for scouting African talent. He became a key midfielder and helped the team qualify for European competition. In 2012, he moved to Juventus. Under coaches Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri, he was used in midfield and on the left of defence.

Juventus won the Serie A title in every season he spent there, part of a record run of nine consecutive championships.

Finals, injuries and Inter

Juventus reached the Champions League final in 2015 and 2017, though they lost both. Asamoah was part of the squad in those seasons. Knee injuries kept him out for long periods, but he returned each time. In 2018, he joined Inter Milan, Juventus’s rivals, and played regularly for two seasons. He later played for Cagliari before retiring. Asamoah played at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and at several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, helping Ghana reach the 2010 AFCON final.

Style and legacy

He was admired for his stamina, tactical intelligence and ability to play in several positions. He is remembered as one of the most decorated Ghanaian players in European football. Fans and teammates admired his calm on the ball, and Italian commentators often praised his work rate and discipline. In Ghana, his trophy haul made him a source of national pride, and young players cite him as proof that hard work can win titles at Europe’s biggest clubs.

After retirement and the cups

He has spoken about wanting to help young Ghanaian players manage their careers abroad. Alongside the league titles, he won several Coppa Italia trophies and Italian Super Cups with Juventus, making his time in Turin one of the most successful spells any African player has had at a single European club. Kwadwo Asamoah rarely made headlines with flashy goals. He made them with medals, six league titles in a row in one of the world’s toughest leagues.
