Ghanaian music icon Samini, known for his lyrical fire and political candor, is making headlines again, but this time, not for a new track.
The reggae-dancehall star has publicly praised President John Dramani Mahama and his administration’s aggressive stance on corruption, a move that has surprised many given Samini’s past support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During a candid interview on Joy Prime, Samini expressed admiration for the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, which targets the recovery of misappropriated state funds. “I’m a happy Ghanaian,” he said, noting that justice appears to be taking its rightful course. His remarks come as several former officials from the previous administration face legal scrutiny.
What makes Samini’s endorsement particularly striking is his history. He once composed a campaign anthem for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2024 elections. Yet, when it comes to accountability, the “My Own” hitmaker made it clear—he stands with Ghana first. “I won’t walk on eggshells because a favorite of mine might be in trouble,” he stated, emphasizing that public office should be about service, not self-enrichment.
Samini’s comments have sparked a wave of reactions online, with many applauding his courage to speak truth over party lines. He also commended the judiciary for its role in ensuring that justice is not just promised but pursued.
