The family of Shanteria Tia Mosely found her dismembered remains in Smyrna, Georgia, after tracking her phone to an apartment complex. On Wednesday, September 23, 2023, Mosely, a 26-year-old DoorDash driver, went missing shortly after leaving her home. Her family reported her disappearance and took matters into their own hands, leading to a grim discovery at the Park Valley Apartments on South Cobb Drive.
After utilizing the location feature on her phone, Mosely's relatives searched the nearby woods and grassy areas. They first found her vehicle, prompting them to contact the police. According to Mosely’s aunt, Michelle Weaver, a police officer arrived but left after briefly knocking on a few doors. "So where did her phone ping?" Weaver recalled the officer asking them. After a short investigation, the officer departed, leaving the family to continue the search themselves.
Weaver recounted how the family persisted in their efforts. During their search, she noticed an 18-year-old man, Kingston Bradley, acting suspiciously. Bradley was observed carrying a bag that appeared to contain a plastic tub. When he spotted Weaver, he dropped the bag and fled the scene. The family then discovered the contents of the bag, which included Mosely's dismembered torso. They identified her by a tattoo.
“I just want our story to get out,” Weaver said. “I just want Smyrna police to have the correct facts.” She criticized the police for their lack of action during the initial report. “You guys left us to do it ourselves,” she added. “Same police officer that came the first time, she was there the second time, and she dropped down. She said, ‘I should have believed y’all.’”
Despite claims from her family that Mosely was working for DoorDash at the time of her disappearance, Smyrna Police Department Lieutenant Meredith Holt stated that Mosely was not logged on or accepting orders that day.
After the discovery, police investigated Bradley’s apartment, finding blood stains and a large, bloody saw. They also uncovered a mop bucket filled with water and a strong smell of bleach. Alani Smith, a resident of the complex, expressed concern over the incident. “Someone is dead, chopped up, and it’s scary,” Smith said. “I have two kids that live here. They walk back and forth to the bus. That’s scary.”
Bradley has been arrested and charged with concealing the death of another person. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mosely's death is ongoing. Police have not released additional information about the case or any potential motives.
Weaver described her niece as someone who brought joy to those around her. “Her smiles, laughter, and just full of joy,” she said. “Talking crap to everybody, and just being happy, cheering everybody up.” The community now grapples with the shocking details that have emerged from this tragedy, leaving many to wonder about the circumstances leading to Mosely's death.
