A young man who went viral for hurling insults at the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and his abrafour has been left battered after being caught by unknown persons.
In a video making rounds online, the man is seen with severe facial injuries, almost unrecognizable after what appeared to be a violent assault. His face was swollen, bloodied and barely intact as he struggled to speak.
The incident has sparked heated conversations, with many suggesting his punishment was self-inflicted by his own actions. Others, however, have raised concerns about mob justice, arguing that no matter the insult, such violence cannot be justified.
Respect for traditional leaders runs deep in Asante culture, and public insults against the Otumfuo are seen by many as crossing a dangerous line. While some social media users applauded the beating as a form of “lesson,” critics believe the situation reflects a worrying trend of individuals taking the law into their own hands.
The identity of the young man remains unclear, and it is not yet known whether authorities will intervene in the case.
