Tears Flow as Beautiful UCC Final-Year Student Candy Osei Abora Dies in Tragic Gas Explosion

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) community is reeling from the sudden and tragic loss of Miss Candy Osei Abora, a final-year Bachelor of Arts student, who died following a gas explosion on Monday, May 19, 2025.

The incident has left students, faculty, and staff in deep mourning, as they grapple with the untimely passing of a vibrant and promising young woman.

News of Candy’s death was confirmed by Valco Hall, her campus residence, through an emotional statement posted on their official TikTok page on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. The statement read:

“With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the untimely passing of Miss Candy Osei Abora, a cherished Level 400 student of the University of Cape Coast, affiliated with Valco Hall and pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree.”

The hall further expressed solidarity with Candy’s family and loved ones during this period of immense grief, adding:

“As we mourn the loss of such a vibrant and promising soul, we stand in unity with her family and loved ones during this period of immense grief… May her gentle soul find eternal rest in the bosom of the Almighty. Gone too soon, but never forgotten.”

The TikTok post has since gone viral, with numerous students and friends sharing their condolences and memories of Candy. One user, @Benjamin, commented:

“Awww! Candy I still can’t believe that u’re gone.”

Another, @Sir Gideon, wrote:

Valco Hall has indicated that further details regarding Candy’s passing and funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. In the meantime, the UCC community continues to mourn the loss of a cherished member, whose absence will be deeply felt.
