Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has joined the nation in mourning the passing of highlife legend Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who was confirmed dead on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
In a heartfelt message shared via his Instagram Stories, Sarkodie revealed the emotional weight of the news, saying he struggled to find words to express how he felt.
“Only if I had the words to express how I’ve been feeling since early this morning but I don’t… we will all go back to the maker one day but sometimes it’s hard to even entertain the thought when it involves people close to your heart,” he wrote. “RIP DL!!! Thanks for all you’ve done for us… The legacy lives on. Condolences to the family—I pray for strength.”
Sarkodie posted the tribute while listening to Daddy Lumba’s hit song “Gold Digger”, a subtle but powerful way to honor the man whose music inspired generations.
The Fosu family officially confirmed Daddy Lumba’s death in a press release issued the same day, stating that the legendary musician passed away at the Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra, after a short illness.
“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives,” the family wrote. “His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience.”
The family, represented by Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., requested privacy during this period of mourning and noted that funeral arrangements would be announced in the coming days.
Daddy Lumba, known for timeless hits such as Aben Wo Ha, Theresa, Dangerous, and Yentie Obiaa, leaves behind a legacy of over 30 albums, countless accolades, and an unmatched influence on the Ghanaian music scene.
As tributes continue to pour in from across the entertainment world and beyond, Sarkodie’s words echo what many feel—Daddy Lumba was not just an artist, but a symbol of passion, resilience, and Ghanaian excellence.
