Retired Ghanaian boxing legend Braimah Kamoko, widely known as Bukom Banku, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to upgrade the Bukom Astroturf into a modern mini stadium and name it after him.

“The astroturf is good, but a stadium named after me will motivate young boxers to dream big,” he said. He praised Mahama’s previous contribution to sports, noting the Bukom Boxing Arena, commissioned during his earlier term, as Ghana’s only dedicated boxing facility. “We need more to keep our youth off the streets,” he added.

The appeal follows Banku’s controversial takeover of the astroturf’s management in April 2025, which he justified as a move to maintain the facility for the community. His actions sparked debate, with some residents supporting his vision and others questioning his authority.

The proposal has ignited discussions on social media, with fans backing the idea of honoring Banku’s legacy, while critics highlight competing national priorities.President Mahama’s administration has not yet responded.

As Banku awaits a decision, he remains a vocal advocate for Bukom’s youth, pushing for a lasting legacy through sports development.
