Mother of Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has spoken openly about her daughter’s fashion choices on stage, cautioning young women not to copy them without thought.
She explained that while her daughter’s outfits work for her career, they may not be suitable for everyone.
Speaking in an interview, she said Wendy’s job as a performer requires her to dress in ways that capture attention and fit the music industry. However, she stressed that young girls should be careful before imitating such looks in their daily lives.
According to her, stage costumes are often exaggerated to make a statement and entertain fans. Wearing them outside of that setting can bring unnecessary judgment and challenges.
She urged young women to dress in ways that reflect their values, comfort, and the situations they find themselves in.
Fans reacted positively to her message, with many praising her honesty and wisdom. Some noted that it was refreshing to hear a celebrity’s parent share such a balanced view on fame, fashion, and responsibility.
Wendy Shay, who is known for her bold style and energetic performances, has built a strong following in Ghana and beyond. While her fashion sense is often debated, it has also become part of her brand as an artist.
Her mother’s advice, however, offers an important reminder that public figures live under different expectations than everyday people.
For her, the message to young women was simple: be inspired, but make choices that suit your own life.

“My daughter is not into nudity. She wears what she wears on stage because the craft demands it. However, after the stage, she is a decent girl. So I will urge young ladies to rather focus on the real Wendy Shay after the stage and learn from that rather than learn from what she wears on stage,” she said.
