Jalen Brunson will appear on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” tonight in New York, taking on the role of Detective Madison. The reigning NBA Finals MVP and New York Knicks captain makes his acting debut in the episode titled “Forsaken,” airing at 9 p.m. ET.
Brunson’s appearance on “SVU” follows his earlier turn as host of “Saturday Night Live” this season. The first teaser dropped last week showed Mariska Hargitay as Detective Olivia Benson approaching Brunson’s character, setting the stage for their interaction.
The episode’s synopsis reveals that Benson and her squad uncover a secret that alters the course of their investigation. Meanwhile, Assistant District Attorney Sonny Carisi faces complications as key witnesses refuse to cooperate. This promises a tense narrative woven around Brunson’s character.
Mariska Hargitay first hinted at Brunson’s guest spot during an interview on “TODAY” in August. She said, “Don’t tell anyone but we got some things in the works,” in a whisper to anchor Savannah Guthrie. Hargitay and Brunson are close friends, and her support for the Knicks is well known. She often appears in the stands on Celebrity Row at Madison Square Garden.
Fans without cable can stream the episode live on NBC through various live TV streaming services. DIRECTV offers a five-day free trial with its Choice plan, which includes NBC among its 125-plus channels. Peacock also streams “SVU” live, though it does not offer a direct free trial. However, subscribing via Prime Video grants a seven-day free trial before payments start. The episode will be available on-demand on Peacock starting tomorrow.
Angela Tricarico, who reported on Brunson’s casting, covers streaming and consumer tech for Post Wanted Shopping, Page Six, and Decider.com. She tests streaming services to find the best prices and keeps track of pop culture intersections with sports and tech.
Brunson’s move into acting follows a growing trend of athletes crossing into television and film. His role on a long-running procedural like “SVU” positions him alongside a series known for engaging with current social issues through its storytelling.
Tonight’s episode will reveal how Brunson’s character fits into the “SVU” universe and whether this guest spot might lead to further acting opportunities.
