Outspoken Ghanaian politician and Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has officially declared his intention to contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a video that has since gone viral, Kennedy Agyapong passionately expressed his commitment to the party and his long-standing contributions over the years. “I have sacrificed a lot for this party. I played a critical role in the NPP’s rise to power,” he said.
Although Agyapong did not specify when he would formally begin his campaign, he hinted at making a strategic move when the time is right.
“At the appropriate time, I will do what I can to support the party,” he noted, emphasizing unity and continuity in the NPP’s vision for Ghana.
This announcement comes months after his spirited bid for the NPP flagbearer position in the 2024 elections, where he garnered significant grassroots support but ultimately fell short of clinching the top spot. With 2028 in sight, Agyapong appears more resolute than ever to return stronger.
As the NPP gears up for the post-2024 era, Kennedy Agyapong’s declaration is likely to spark early conversations about party leadership, strategy, and the future direction of the party. His bold and unfiltered political style, combined with his business acumen, continues to resonate with a segment of the electorate seeking change and authenticity.
Whether he secures the flagbearership or not, Agyapong’s influence within the NPP and on Ghana’s political landscape remains undeniable.
